Industrial Galvanizers lends a helping hand to Ronald McDonald House, Newcastle

Industrial Galvanizers® has once again been a key sponsor and partner in the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) Schools Scholarship Programme. The PWCS Scholarship programme has been running since 2002; each year PWCS selects a group of up to twelve young women and men who are attending school in Year 11.  The team uses the skills they learn in Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to build a covered trailer for a local charity or community organisation.  The construction takes just over 12 months, with the finished product being presented before the students take their end-of-school exams in Year 12.
Industrial Galvanizers has been a key sponsor of the scholarship programme for many years.  Along with a number of other partners, Industrial Galvanizers provides specialist services that combine to  make a robust, long-lasting product.
This year's PWCS School Scholarship group decided that the trailer should be donated to Ronald McDonald House at the Hunter Children’s Hospital. Click to read the FULL STORY...

No, its NOT the sinking of the Titanic!

But it IS one of the larger steel components to be dipped at Industrial Galvanizers® Tasmanian plant.  This pipework was fabricated by HB Engineering in Launceston, as part of the Ringarooma Irrigation Scheme.  This $28m investment in north-eastern Tasmania  comprises a new 6,500ml dam, 38.5km of distribution pipeline and two pumping stations.
The galvanized steelwork  was large enough to demand a ‘double dip’ in the galvanizing kettle at Launceston.  “It was great to have a job that filled our kettle,” commented Aaron Harland, Operations Manager for Industrial Galvanizers in Tasmania.

Austin Hospital Car Park extension

Industrial Galvanizers® (Melbourne) recently completed the galvanizing for this stunning new development in Heidelberg, north of Melbourne.  The six-storey, multi-level extension is a major development for the Austin Hospital and involved the construction of an 18,000 square metre structure of the existing operational car park. It will provide an additional 752 car spaces by utilising a steel-framed, cast-concrete structure.
As the video below shows, galvanized steel from Industrial Galvanizers has enhanced the visual appeal of the structure - and provided a long-lating, low maintenance solution.  Click on the video link to learn more...

Kevin Norris - recognising an unsung hero

Queensland-based Kevin Norris was recently recognised for his work in Workplace Health & Safety.  He was nominated for the statewide award by his colleague Edward Foord, and was selected as one of just four finalists in the Return to Work awards.  There were over 320 nominees this year, with the finalists chosen by an expert judging panel. Kevin was selected as a finalist because the panel felt his nomination “demonstrated outstanding achievements in rehabilitation and return to work”.
Norris feels the key to successful rehabilitation and return to work is support for the injured worker - from  management through Supervisors, Team Leaders and fellow employees. “I don’t like seeing injuries, and I feel great when I see an injured worker come back to work in their normal role,” was Norris’s summary.
The most important reasons driving Kevin’s success: his wife Katrina and their baby daughter Cienna.  “We all need our health to support and enjoy our families.”  Read more here...

Galvanizing for Novices

Hot-dip galvanizing is one of the most effective ways to protect steel from corrosion. Galvanizing provides proven protection for a wide range of steel products. These include small components and fasteners, as well as fabricated steel structures and architecturally designed buildings. Galvanized products perform well in a range of different environments.

The galvanizing process comprises anumber of steps: firstly, uncoated steel ('black work') that enters the site is given a unique tag to identify it through the process.  It then moves through the stages of jigging; cleaning; fluxing; dipping; quenching and dressing.  The packaged work is then stored in the ‘white work’ area prior to dispatch.

Each of the steps is important in ensuring a quality outcome for the end-user.  At Industrial       Galvanizers, the composition of process chemical tanks - including the zinc in the bath (or kettle) - is regularly sampled at each site and tested in our NATA-certified laboratory. Adjustments are made to maintain chemistry within carefully defined boundaries.  This attention to process control is vital to a quality product.  Read more here...

Industrial Galvanizers (Tasmania) - what a turnaround!

Of the many changes at Industrial Galvanizers® Tasmania over the past two years, improved turnaround time has been among the most significant.  Turnaround time (from drop off to completion of work) was 2 - 3 weeks but now consistently averages 3 – 4 days.

This has been the result of an increased customer focus and great work by the Launceston-based team.  Since his appointment to the role of Operations Manager in September 2010, Aaron Harland has maintained a keen focus on customer service. “We want to be seen by our customers as professional and responsive,” said Harland. ”Industrial Galvanizers Tasmania deals with many professionally managed businesses; we want to reflect that in our service to them,” he continued.

Harland has taken time talking with customers to better understand what other galvanized products the Industrial Galvanizers businesses can offer. “We  keep a stock of handrail, grate and guardrail  products from our sister-Companies Webforge® and INGAL®.  The ability to sell from stock is valuable to customers who are working on short lead-times.”  Read more here...
