A Stronger Solution, A Secure Solution
“Cost of galvanizing is equal to painting, but it last longer and it is not often offered so this makes it a great marketing feature to our customers.”
The variety of equipment Iscar GSE manufactures helps improve the efficiency and safety for cargo handling and transportation. This includes the slave rack, which is used for transferring Unit Load Devices (ULDs), or other large cargo items weighing up to 15,000 pounds. The ULD containers themselves are lightweight and, without proper handling, the containers and product inside are susceptible to damage. To reduce costly replacement or repair fees, the slave rack is used to provide a reliable, easy, safe and smooth method of transferring these items.
Slave racks are put to work in transporting facilities, which are in heavy industrial and/or tropical marine environments. The setting is also very rugged due to the constant flow of materials. Hot-dip galvanizing was the answer to protecting the steel equipment from rusting but also from damages caused by the heavy demand of transporting the pallets from one location to the other.
Prior to galvanizing, the company painted these racks but quickly learned the paint would not hold up in this harsh environment. The durability and abrasion resistance of galvanizing reduces the maintenance costs substantially for several decades in service.
With a commitment to quality and service, this partnership allowed our team at Miami Galvanizing to work together to modify the rack design for the galvanizing process. This included the proper placement of air ventilation and zinc drain holes to ensure no air pockets or excessive zinc pick-up would occur during the galvanizing process. By September 2021, over 234 tons of steel was galvanized for Iscar GSE and the demand will likely grow in the near future.
